Jonathan Talbot
American, (1939)
Jonathan Talbot is a master in oils, watercolors, etchings, collages and multidimensional collage constructions. His artwork has been exhibited at The National Academy and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and is included in many museum collections in the U.S. and Europe. Among the public collections holding Talbot works are The Newark Museum, The Smith College Museum, The Everhart Museum, The San Francisco Academy of Art, Fairleigh Dickinson University and The Provincetown Historical Society.
Two mixed-media collages are available as limited editions : “Freighter”
- a three-dimensional collage construction and “Medicine Bundle.”
Though Talbot’s precise, elegant and beautifully composed collages reference Joseph Cornell’s boxes and/or Malevich’s collages, their exciting content and meticulous presentation make them completely new and unique in their own way. “Talbot’s imaginative and provocative works speak eloquently to the human condition in all its iterations. Indeed, his multi-dimensional collages inspire us to think forward, as well as to think outside the box and beyond the paradigms of today and yesterday.” (Richard W. Hull, Ph.D. Professor of History) True to these words, the above collage “Freighter”, while literally depicting the voyage and cargo of a sailing ship, also gracefully captures a psychological rendering of our own subconscious “baggage” collected throughout our uncharted life’s journey with the ladder offering an escape into beauty and serenity.
